Cornwall Hospice Care is a 24/7 Cornish healthcare charity that provides specialist support for people with terminal illnesses.
Our Fundraising team are hosting lots of Open Garden Events during the Spring and Summer months, inviting the public to visit the gardens and raise vital funds for our hospices. As an Open Garden Event Volunteer you’ll be supporting the team to be a friendly face helping making these events a great success.
Main duties for an Open Garden Event Volunteer
As a Open Garden Event Volunteer you will be attending one or more of our organised Open Garden events and being part of the team to help ensure they run smoothly and are a successful and positive experience. The duties are varied and no two events are the same.
The tasks will vary according to the Open Garden event but may include
- Helping at the registration desk, welcoming participants and families.
- Assisting with the setting up of tables, banners and merchandise.
- Marshalling at car parks.
- Providing information and direction for participants.
- Manning the plant sales table.
Hours of work
We are looking for Open Garden Event Volunteers who are willing to give a morning or afternoon of their time at Open Gardens usually between April and September. Dates for 2024 Open Gardens are being agreed now and we’ll publish a full timetable in late March or the beginning of April.
The Fundraising Team will provide you with information on what volunteer support is needed ahead of each event and how long we would like you to help for.
Desirable skills and qualities
- Enthusiastic and willing to get stuck in.
- Reliability.
- Courteous, friendly and approachable.
- Be able to work effectively in a team or alone.
- A great sense of humour.
- Commitment to the ethos of Cornwall Hospice Care.
Induction and training
There is no formal training required for this role, although Event Volunteers will be expected to attend any pre event briefing where appropriate.
